NUDE Skincare Line Review – Cleanser, Polish, Oil & Moisturizer
Some time ago while in Sephora, I was browsing new products and came across the NUDE Skincare line. I had never tried oil cleansers or oil treatments for the face before and it seemed like a good choice to try.
The saleswoman in the store was also raving about these products and how they were packed with powerful omega oils. Founded in 2007, NUDE Skincare took a new and innovative approach to skincare nutrition.
They use a precisely balanced diet of omegas, minerals, probiotics and antioxidants to provide skincare rooted in high-performance nutrition in a natural, healthy way.
I bought four products: The NUDE Perfect Cleansing Oil, NUDE Perfect Polish, NUDE ProGenius Omega Treatment Oil, and the NUDE Advanced Renewal Moisturizer ($236 price tag).
I chose these specific products as I was told these were best for anti-aging and hydration, which were my main two concerns.
I wanted softer skin, more moisture and a break from products with chemicals. I had high hopes that once I tried these nourishing oils, I would be hooked, but I was a little concerned these oil-rich products would clog my pores.
So let’s dive in and learn about my experience using these products!
NUDE Perfect Cleansing Oil
Price: $36 for 3.4 oz
The NUDE Perfect Cleansing Oil is idea for all skin types, and is a superfood-rich oil-to-milk cleanser for face and eyes that removes all makeup and impurities to reveal incredibly clean, clear skin.
The NUDE Perfect Cleansing Oil has some impressive antioxidant, free radical fighting ingredients:
- Acai Berry Oil – natural antioxidant and rich in vitamin C, fights free radicals that promote premature aging
- Cranberry Seed Oil – light oil plentiful in antioxidants and omegas 3, 6 & 9, defends against free radicals
- Jojoba Oil – deeply moisturizes
- Kalahari Melon Seed Oil – rich in Omega 6, 9 & tocopherols. Nourishes and provides defense against free radicals
- Meadowfoam Oil – forms a moisture barrier to prevent moisture loss
- Omega 6, 9 – combats dehydration, boosts skins moisture, protects against premature aging and environmental stresses
- Passion Fruit Seed Oil – Vitamin C and Omega 6 removes impurities and surface oil
- Pomegranate Seed Oil – rich in antioxidants and Omega 5
- Sunflower Seed Oil – rich in Omegas 6, 9 and vitamins, nourishes and soothes the skin
The instructions are to apply two to three pumps (you really don’t need that much) to a dry face and around the eyes and add warm water to form a light milk, then rinse clean.
The oil was a bit hard to spread around on its own, but when you apply the water it does turn into a nice milky cream that makes it easy to thoroughly rub in. I rinsed it off using a washcloth with tepid water.
It has a light, pleasant natural smell that you would expect from having so many wonderful oils from fruits and seeds, but it does contain some added fragrance (as do all their products).
The NUDE Perfect Cleansing Oil left my skin feeling very soft and supple and it didn’t irritate my eyes (and I have very sensitive eyes). I loved the cleanser! It felt really nice on my skin and doesn’t strip your face of oils, because you’re adding oil!
NUDE Perfect Polish
Price: $34 for 2.6 oz
I bought the NUDE Perfect Polish so that I could use it to exfoliate a few times a week thinking it would be a good but gentle scrub.
However, the polish doesn’t feel like a polish at all. It contains rice germ powder as the main abrasive agent but there’s really no “grit” to speak of.
I also found this polish to be really heavy and waxy, leaving a film that I didn’t like at all. I’m guessing this is due to it containing Rice Bran Wax but I can’t be sure.
It feels like you’re rubbing around a thick oil and not like an exfoliant at all. Not sure why they call it a polish.
Other key ingredients found in the NUDE Perfect Polish are:
- Rice Germ Powder – derived from whole rice and serves as a gentle, natural scrub
- Sweet Almond Oil – nourishes and moisturizes, rich in Vit E a potent antioxidant
- Sunflower Seed Oil – rich in Omegas 6, 9 and vitamins, nourishes and soothes the skin
- Cacao Seed Butter – rich in Omegas 3, 6 & 9, helps skin keep nourished and moisturized
- Jasmine Flower Extract – protects skin from environmental stressors, which prematurely age the skin
As I mentioned, this polish left me disappointed. When I exfoliate, I want my skin to feel really cleansed, I want that dead layer of skin and debris removed so that my anti-aging products can penetrate more deeply. I want to feel at least some sort of grit by way of ground nuts, seeds or jojoba beads.
NUDE Perfect Polish left me feeling like I had a film of wax on my face that seemed to build up over time, causing my pores to clog. No bueno.
NUDE ProGenius Omega Treatment Oil
Price: $78 for 1 oz
The NUDE ProGenius Omega Treatment Oil is the star player when it comes to the NUDE Skincare line.
This is a concentrated anti-aging facial treatment oil formulated with a potent blend of omega’s and 10 natural plant oils to promote smooth, youthful, luminous skin.
I rather liked the feel and texture of this oil and the scent is light made up of (mostly) non-fragrant plant oils. It absorbs into the skin nicely to immediately hydrate the face, infusing it with moisture and providing protection against the elements.
Even Paula’s Choice gives this oil a 4 star rating for crying out loud, and we know how she likes to hate on any products that aren’t hers!
The key ingredients in the NUDE ProGenius Omega Treatment Oil are:
- Apricot Oil – rich in amino acids and antioxidants, easily absorbs into skin to moisturize and soften without feeling greasy
- Camelina Sativa Seed Oil
- Meadowfoam Oil – orms a moisture barrier to prevent moisture loss
- Sunflower Seed Oil – rich in Omegas 6, 9 and vitamins, nourishes and soothes the skin
- Sweet Almond Oil – nourishes and moisturizes, rich in Vit E a potent antioxidant
- Jojoba Oil – deeply moisturizes skin
- Omega 3 – essential fatty acid reduces redness, retains moisture and boosts elasticity
- Omega 6 – combats deyhydration and boosts skin’s moisture
- Omega 7 – helps skin maintain resilience while renewing and restoring suppleness, enhances skin tone and texture
- Omega 9 – protects against premature aging, intensely nourishes and protects skin from environmental stressors
- Rosemary Leaf Extract – powerful antioxidant
- Sea Buckthorn Oil – contains rare omega 7, defends and prevents signs of aging
- Vitamin E – potent antioxidant fights free radicals that lead to premature aging
I usually don’t like to go into quite so much detail about a products ingredients, but it’s packed with so many good things it was hard to leave anything out!
This little oil really packs a huge punch when it comes to protecting the face from the environment while providing a ton of anti-aging benefits.
While this oil is best suited for dry skin, my combo skin seemed to like it too. I preferred to use this product at night, since using it during the day did tend to make me look a bit oily. But if your skin is dry, or you live in a cold climate – you might just love this oil!
NUDE Advanced Renewal Moisturizer
The NUDE Advanced Renewal Moisturizer has a silkier feel than the treatment oil, but is even more moisturizing and does a better job at plumping wrinkles in my opinion.
This is really an ultra-rich, hydrating moisturizer packed with nutrients and anti-oxidants!
If you’re not too keen on using an oil, then you may like the texture of the moisturizer better while still capturing all of the anti-aging benefits that the oil provides as it contains many of the same ingredients, but there are some differences.
I really don’t think you need both the oil and the moisturizer unless your skin is hella dry, so if you’re thinking about trying this line, I would pick one or the other, or use the moisturizer only at night since it’s so rich and creamy.
The NUDE Advanced Renewal Moisturizer contains the following key ingredients:
- Algae Extract – rich in vitamins and amino acids, helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and smooths skin texture
- Antioxidants – captures free radicals that damage skin. Protects from environmental stressors and improves overall skin health
- Hyaluronic Acid – smooths the skin and keeps it hydrated, acts as water reservoir and delivers moisture over time
- Hydrolized Rice Protein – improves skin’s smoothness and protects skin from pollution
- Jojoba Oil – deeply moisturizes skin
- Omega 6 – combats deyhydration and boosts skin’s moisture
- Omega 9 – protects against premature aging, intensely nourishes and protects skin from environmental stressors
- Prebiotics – supports and protects skin’s delicate balance of microflora, also protects against stressors
- Sunflower Seed Oil – rich in Omegas 6, 9 and vitamins, nourishes and soothes the skin
- Sweet Almond Oil – nourishes and moisturizes, rich in Vit E a potent antioxidant
- Vitamin E – potent antioxidant fights free radicals that lead to premature aging
Overall I liked the NUDE Advanced Renewal Moisturizer, but I’m not going to lie, it was too rich for my combo skin. I liked using it a night, but it’s too heavy for me for day time use, and forget about layering an spf over it. The moisturizer left me feeling greasy and didn’t seem to fully absorb.
Conclusion and Recommendation
I had such high hopes for the NUDE line! I was totally ready to convert to a different way of skincare and they obviously put a LOT of thought and care into their ingredients list.
And while they did feel very luxurious, highly moisturizing and contained powerful ingredients that I know are great for the skin, I just couldn’t get over the heaviness of it all.
I am so sad to say that after 10 days of using nothing but these products, my pores became clogged. And not just clogged, but my pores got bigger! My nose was just begging to be squeezed (sorry TMI) and I started to break out. I could just see my pores filled with, well…oil!
Now I know I mentioned I did not like the polish at ALL, but I did happen to like the cleanser and the treatment oil if I had to pick my two favorites. And perhaps I could use them sparingly and benefit from all the superb ingredients, however….
Instead, here I am, six months after I spent $236 on four products that totally didn’t work for me with full bottles. I wanted to hurry up and finish this review so that I could figure out which of my friends or family had the driest skin so I could give these products to them for Christmas.
For now, I keep the treatment oil on my desk and I’ve been using it to moisturize my cuticles and hands. My hands love the stuff! Unfortunately my face didn’t. 🙁
My recommendation is that if you want to try the NUDE Skincare line, go to Sephora and buy one of their sample sets before you buy the full sized products like I did.
And unless you have really dry skin, you may want to stick with a lighter oil, such as Argan Oil for your face. Argan Oil has a totally different feel to me, it’s much lighter, and the smaller molecules absorb better.
