doTERRA Essential Oils Overview

doTERRA essential oils can be a nice addition to your daily routine and bring a sense of peace and balance for the mind and body. There’s something very relaxing about choosing an oil for your diffuser and turning it on – bring on the zen!

It’s been over a year since I started using doTERRA essential oils and I’m long overdue sharing my experience!  I love using these oils and definitely have a few favorites!

Essential oils calm anxious feelings, ease tensions and harness many health benefits. There are many ways to use essential oils including aromatic, internal and topical methods.

One or multiple application methods can be used for a wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications.

What I love most about essential oils is simply using my diffuser and choosing an oil that will encourage or “diffuse” whatever mood I’m trying to set, or let go of!

I chose doTERRA because of its high quality and reputation and after much consideration I just loved how their oils smelled the best!

My Favorite doTERRA Essential Oils

While I’m working, I like to use invigorating and energizing doTERRA essential oils such as Motivate, Lemon or Cheer! They perk me up and help me focus.

They just make my environment more of an inviting space with an uplifting energy.

When I’m trying to relax before bed, or for a night of pampering with a bubble bath, Lavender is my favorite oil to diffuse. It’s very calming and helps me wind down. Who doesn’t love lavender?!

A small dab of lavender oil on my pillow is also a nice way to fall asleep, it’s very relaxing and helps ease tension headaches.

The Lavender Touch roller is perfect to dab on wrists, back of the neck or temples to create an instant calming effect. It’s also an effective bedtime ritual for children applied to the bottom of their feet. Children love rituals!

My two all time favorite doTERRA essential oils are Balance and Serenity, they just smell amazing and you can’t go wrong with either one of these! These are two of the most popular doTERRA oils!

If I’m ever stressed out or feeling anxious, either one of these calm my mood and instantly put me in a better place. It also helps me not gnaw on my fingernails when I have anxiety!

Why doTERRA? Quality!

There are many internal and external health benefits to using doTERRA essential oils, and the quality of an essential oil is an important factor or they won’t work as intended.

I decided to join doTERRA since they offer pure, therapeutic grade essential oils, diffusers, personal care and wellness supplements that I enjoy using myself, and that I feel good about sharing with others.

doTERRA uses a strict CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade^® quality protocol, which utilizes a low-heat steam distillation process for most flowers and plants. For their citrus oils, a method called expression is used, sometimes referred to as “cold pressed.”

A poor distillation process can alter or destroy the necessary aromatic compounds that comprise the essential oil, leaving a substance far different from the intended goal and something that would not be used to support health and wellness.

Quality is of the upmost importance to me and I wanted to choose a reputable brand I could really focus on to become knowledgeable about and doTERRA fit the bill!

For now I’ll share the products that I’ve used so far and I’ll continue to share as a I go along and try more products.

doTERRA Diffusers

There are many beautiful doTERRA diffusers you can choose from and I chose the Lumo Diffuser. It wasn’t the most expensive but it wasn’t the cheapest either.

I liked the look of the Lumo diffuser as it has a look inspired by nature with a maple wood base and seemed simple.

The Lumo diffuser has settings where it can run continuously for 2-5 hours or for 10 hours intermittently. I find that having it on  for 20-30 minutes is the sweet spot for a perfect aromatic experience!

It  also has 7 different lighting options – fancy!  So it also doubles as a disco light! 😉

You can settle on one color (I like the purple) or you can just have a white light on, or no light at all.

The best thing about doTERRA diffusers is that they harness ultrasonic technology, which is how the oils are diffused into the air combined with water.

It comes out as such a microscopic fine mist that it’s able to spread about the air very evenly to bring the best aromatic experience and easy to breath in for the health benefits.

The Lumo diffuser worked SO much better than my cheap diffuser (bought at Whole Foods no less) which used to spit out giant particles of water and would run out so fast! I’m very pleased with the quality of the Lumo diffuser and it’s easy to clean.

doTERRA Kits

When I was getting started, I felt a bit overwhelmed, because there are so many essential oils to choose from – who knew what I would like best?

So I decided to purchase a doTERRA starter kit in addition to the full sized Balance and Serenity (a friend had given me samples of those and I already knew I loved them both!)

There are several doTERRA starter kits that are a great choices so you have a little variety!

The kit that I got started with was the doTERRA Emotional Aromatherapy System, which contains six proprietary essential oil blends representing common categories of emotional well-being.

Peace, Console, Forgive, Passion, Cheer and Motivate!  I’ll admit there were a couple that I didn’t absolutely love at first sniff, but once I diffused them, they were lovely. I tried to channel each individual oils dynamic.

For example, when you diffuse Forgive, you can’t help but to channel some “letting-go” which is something I really enjoyed about this specific kit.
