Obagi Professional-C Serum 20% Strength Review

Obagi Professional-C Serum 20% Strength Overview

In the anti-aging skincare industry, there are a few ingredients that stand out as having real, practically undisputed benefit.  One of them is Vitamin C.  When formulated properly, this antioxidant can:

  • Protect the support structure of the skin
  • Boost the effectiveness of sunscreen
  • Improve the appearance of skin previously damaged by sun
  • Stimulate collagen production
  • Enhance the effectiveness of other skincare products
  • Lighten hyperpigmentation
  • Reduce inflammation

Obagi Professional-C Serum 20% Strength claims to be formulated in such a way as to make it work just how it’s supposed to so you get all these benefits.  Obagi makes products that are both prescription and over-the-counter.  Obagi Professional-C Serum 20% Strength is an over-the-counter product that you can buy online.  So let’s look into how it actually works.

Obagi Professional-C Serum 20% Strength ReviewObagi Professional-C Serum 20% Strength Ingredients and How They Work

The Vitamin C in Obagi Professional-C Serum 20% Strength is in the form of L-Ascorbic Acid which is the only form able to be effectively absorbed by your skin.  The pH is optimal, and the concentration of 20% is one of the highest available.

Other than the Vitamin C, the only other active ingredient is Sodium Hyaluronate which is a potent hydrator that attracts and traps water into the skin to plump up and minimize wrinkles.

Obagi Professional-C Serum 20% Strength comes in a dark blue colored bottle with an eye dropper applicator.  This is to ensure that the Vitamin C remains stable and active throughout the life of the product.   You should apply 5-7 drops to your face and neck each morning after cleansing and before applying moisturizer and sunscreen.

Where to Buy

You can purchase Obagi Professional-C Serum 20% Strength through many dermatologists.  Obagi has a provider locator function on their website so you can see which offices sell their products.  Alternatively, you can buy it online.  There is, however, some suspicion that some online retailers are selling fake product.  The real thing costs about $95 per ounce.  We’ve seen it online for as little as $63, but we would recommend you check with Obagi before purchasing at such a low price.

Q: What colour should be the serum? Mine is yellow -L

A: Lauren, this is not one I've used personally. Based on a quick google search of pictures of this product, it does appear that the serum is yellow. Most Vitamin C serums have a tint of orange or yellow so it's probably fine. Are you concerned it's bad? Just check the date and if it was sealed when you received it should be fresh. Rachel
